Getting Started

We will introduce EYEDB by working through some simple administration operations such as adding a user, creating a database, and through a simple example of defining an ODL schema, and then writing a C++ client program.

At this early stage, we will explain only what is necessary to understand the examples to avoid being swamped by unnecessary details.

We assume that EYEDB has been correctly installed on your computer. Refer to the installation guide in the annex for installation information.

Depending on who you are (the DBA, the installer, a lambda user), you do not need to read all this chapter. In particular, the first sections about the distribution, the environment and administrative operations can be skipped if you are a lambda user. In this case, ask your DBA to create for you an EYEDB user that has the database creation system privilege. Then you can jump directly to the section Using the default configuration and then to the section Creating a database using a specific user.
